Rabbi Saul Strosberg
Rabbi Saul Strosberg joined Sherith Israel as its spiritual leader in August 2005. Rabbi Strosberg received his ordination from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, a seminary dedicated to Open Orthodoxy under the leadership of Rabbi Avi Weiss. Rabbi Strosberg completed rabbinic internships at the National Synagogue in Washington DC and Beth David Synagogue in Hartford Connecticut. He is married to Daniella Pressner, a 2004 graduate of Barnard College with a bachelor’s of arts degree in dance and religion. In addition, she attended the Scholar’s Circle at the Drisha Institute in Manhattan. A native of Skokie, Illinois, Daniella currently teaches kindergarten, grade 5 and grade 6 Judaic studies at the Akiva School and is also pursuing a graduate degree at Vanderbilt University. Both Rabbi Strosberg and Daniella Pressner teach in Sherith Israel’s Sunday School.
An experienced musician who plays piano and trumpet, Rabbi Strosberg was a member of two wedding bands while in college and rabbinical seminary: the Neshoma Orchestra and Barock. He also co-produced and performed on the recently-released CD, “Jerusalem Stone” (Sameach Music). Rabbi Strosberg also has served as High Holiday Cantor for his home-town synagogue, and holds the National Synagogue’s record for the longest Rosh Hashanah shofar blast.
Rabbi Strosberg has extensive experience working with youth. He served as Musical Director, Division Head and Head Boys Counselor at Camp Yavneh, a pluralistic Jewish summer camp in Northwood, New Hampshire for seven years. Indeed, Rabbi Strosberg and Daniella Pressner met at Camp Yavneh, where she was Head Girls Counselor, and their wedding took place there in August 2004. Rabbi Strosberg also served for six years as the Upstate New York regional advisor to the National Conference of Synagogue Youth, receiving the Meritorious Service Award in 2001.
Rabbi Strosberg, a native of Schenectady, New York, received his bachelor’s of science degree cum laude in business administration from Yeshiva University. He also attended Hebrew University, Yeshivat Ateret Kohanim in Jerusalem, and the State University of New York at Albany.
