Shabbat at Sherith Israel begins with a beautiful, Carlbach-style Kabbalat Shabbat service in the heart of Music City.
Every Friday night, we invite everyone to join us for Abraham and Sarah's tent, an inclusive, intimate and joyous Shabbat dinner at the Shul following services. RSVPs are much appreciated, but all are welcome. The dinner is free of charge thanks to a very generous sponsor, but donations are welcome. Each week is hosted by a different family from the Shul.
Shabbat morning services are filled with kavanah, singing, occasional dancing, as well as inspiring divrei Torah from our rabbis and cantor. For younger children, we offer babysitting with a snack and story time, and for children in grades K-4, we offer the "Cocoa Club", where they can celebrate Shabbat together, learn about the Parsha through games and skits, and enjoy a great snack. Cocoa Club meets at 10:30 am every Saturday. Following davening, each week, all are welcome to join the community at our catered Kiddush Luncheon. Many folks stay after kiddush to shmooze, take a walk in the nearby parks, or visit the elderly.
Typically, two classes take place on Shabbat. There is an early-bird class at 8 AM and a later 1 PM class after our Kiddush luncheon.
Shabbat concludes with Mincha, Seudat Shlishit, Maariv, and Havdallah.
